Star! Daily Blog

New York, New York

So I flew to New York this past weekend to interview the stars of "Failure to Launch", a new romantic comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker. This is basically what went down: I flew in, took a cab to a 5 star hotel on Park Avenue, ate a ton of good food, watched the film, slept in a plush king sized bed, indulged in a huge breakfast the next morning, read the New York Times, drank an 8 dollar glass of OJ, and then interviewed the stars.

Now, ideally if I had a ton of time with Matthew and Sarah Jessica I would ask a ton of questions, but since the studio is footing the bill for my extravagant excursion to the "big apple", I only get 4 minutes with the stars. This way you can only talk about the movie, which by the way is a good date movie but very formulaic.

Anyway, when I went in to chat with Mr. McConaughey, the camera started rolling. A lady standing by the actor was giving me time cues letting me know when to wrap up. Now I'm ready to talk with the guy about the film and hopefully about other things like Penelope's supposed pregnancy... But I can't, why?? Because Matthew starts off the conversation by how he's fascinated by my name and how he's met some great people named Husein. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, we're not all bad! I would have loved to talk to him about politics or even the misrepresentation of minorities in North America, but my 4 minutes is running out, so Matthew please, not now!! I ask maybe 2 questions until the lady by Matthew's side starts winding her arm like a windmill signaling me to wrap. As soon as I'm done, the next reporter gets in the same seat and goes through the same experience. On a side note: My big trip to New York was not only filled with 4 minute interviews but also gargantuan amounts of snow! I suppose being stuck in NYC is better than being stuck in Lodi! (that's for all you CCR fans)
