What's Happened To All The Rock Stars?

Blog by Star!Expert, Wednesday, February 22, 2006

Axl Rose just turned 44 years old. Read it again if you like, but it’s not going to change, he’s still going to be 44. If you Google for pictures of Axl Rose you find a man with botox in every possible inch of his face, and red dreadlocks. Not much of a rock star anymore.

What ever happened to all the rock stars? Have they been hunted by ad agencies and marketing departments so aggressively they’ve become extinct? Or are people just bored with what being a rock star represents? Sure Axl may be over the hill and look like a push pin doll version of himself, but there is hope for those of us yearning for true rock stars.

The only catch, is that they don’t make rock music. They make hip-hop. Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye, and Jay-Z are exciting, daring, provocative risk takers – exactly what a rock star is supposed to be. Sure they may not be pumping their bodies full of booze or bragging about groupie conquests; but they are pushing the limits the same way rock stars have done for years. They’re appearing on the covers of music magazines, making over the top videos, and winning the acclaim of critics and fans. The rock star mentality that we’ve fallen in love with hasn’t gone away, it's simply switched genres. It’s only music, but I love it.
