Urban Oscars
Hip Hop funkifies the Academy awards

Finally, the Oscars will have some flavour! Hip Hop is slowly taking over the Academy Awards. Oh yeah! It started with the "Fresh Prince" when he was nominated for his role in "Ali". Queen Latifah got a nod for her role in "Chicago". Eminem won a golden statue for his song "Lose Yourself" in the film "8 Mile". And now, for the first time in Oscar history there will be a hip hop performance on stage! Yup, Three 6 Mafia will perform "Its Hard Out Here for a Pimp".
Think about this for second, a "dirty-South" hip hop group performing some "crunk" at the Academy Awards for affluent rich people. How do you think the performance will go? Will the Weinstein’s start to bump and grind? Will Judi Dench throw "bows" out to the crowd? Or will they all be stunned with their jaws dropped to the floor.
I can't wait until Three 6 Mafia’s performance; my bet is that after their high energy song, the crowd will give the Memphis boys a light golf clap. Or maybe they'll get a standing ovation for sticking to their roots. Either way, the reaction from the crowd will be scrutinized. If people clap, they're not into the music; if they get up and break-dance, it'll look odd; if they stand and applaud, it'll be seen as condescending, as in "isn't that nice, a rap group performing their cultural music on our show".
Whatever the case, get used to it, because hip hop is here to stay! Let Three 6 Mafia take on the awkwardness this year... And hopefully in 5 years, we'll see a performance from Ice Cube and Dr. Dre for an N.W.A. bio-pic.
That would be dope!
