My Guilty Pleasure

Blog by Danielle McGimsie, Monday, February 27, 2006

Being an entertainment reporter means I have to be in the know on everything in the world of entertainment.  That means reading websites, magazines, blogs and occasionally a tabloid or two.  Strictly for work purposes, of course.  Ok, who am I kidding – I’m gonna say it…..I thoroughly enjoy reading tabloids.  Those covers and headlines just suck me in!  I intentionally choose the longest line at the supermarket, grab whatever magazine has the juiciest cover story and start flipping through its glossy pages.  Without fail, when it comes time for me to unload my groceries onto the belt, I’m so absorbed by whatever I’m reading I end up shelling out the $5 to take the magazine home so I can finish what I was looking at.

I know tabloids are considered the worst of the worst in the world of journalism….I don’t think they even classify as journalism!  They can be obnoxious, slanderous, hurtful and filled with lies.  If I can think of one positive aspect tabloids, it’s that they teach people that celebrities are just like everyone else on the planet…..bad hair days, poor choice in fashion and even poorer choices in relationships.  I think it’s safe to say, we’ve all been there.
