What is exclusive these days?
Media outlets like to be "exclusive", the only ones with the story, the first to tell you about so and so etc.
I think its great to be the "first", to be the "only ones", but don't lie!!
Star! Daily recently flew down to Barbados to interview Nelly Furtado. She was there to promote her up coming album "Loose" and to perform for 104.5 CHUM FM, a Toronto radio station who broadcasts annually from the Island.
Two daily Canadian entertainment shows flew down to cover the story, including yours truly.
When we got back home, both shows aired a segment on Nelly Furtado in Barbados on the same day, yet the other show used the word "exclusive".
Am I the only one shocked at this?!
I clearly remember hanging out with Nelly Furtado for over 30 minutes at an island resort near the Caribbean Sea. Not only that, how can they claim something "exclusive" at a CHUM sponsored event, when Star! Daily is owned by CHUM!!!
Ridiculous!
My co-host Dina likes to call it "ex-loose-ive", since the word is so loosely used. You know, I'd like to think the other entertainment show meant to say "ex-loose-ive" in reference to Nelly's new album, but I highly doubt it.
Now before I end this little rant, let me fill you in on a little secret about the media and the word "exclusive"... It's rare. In fact I will go so far and say that you will never hear Star! Daily use it unless we mean it -- Why?
Because we are people of our word.
