Norman Jewison!!

Blog by Husein Madhavji, Friday, April 07, 2006

The director of "Moonstruck", "In the Heat of the Night" and "The Hurricane" -- Mr. Norman Jewison sat down with me to chat about movies, Hollywood and the release of a special DVD edition of "Moonstruck".
Talk about a surreal moment!
This director is right up there with all the classics who helped shape the art of movies. In Mr. Jewison's office, you can find pictures with him and virtually every a-list celeb around. There's also The Order of Canada, a signed, personalized message and photo from Mother Theresa, and perhaps his most treasured award -- The Irwing G. Thalberg Memorial Award. An honour given to a filmmaker who has made a difference in the world of moving pictures.. This award is not given every year, and is presented by the Academy. I remember watching the Oscars when he recieved the award in 1998. So Cool!!
Oh and before I forget, I saw his beloved directors chair. This chair is made out of leather. Usually directors chairs are made out of cloth and are pretty disposable. Not Mr. Jewison's chair, nope, it travels with him to ALL of his shoots. He's had it since 1966!! Man it was an exciting interview (in case you didn't notice).
My story will air on April 17th. Not only will you see our tour, but he's got some pretty JUICY stories on Cher and Denzel...
Stay tuned!
