The time has come for the annual Children's Miracle Network telethon! Co-Founder Marie Osmond spoke to us (the only entertainment show in Canada.. yeah!) about the charity. Now I have a TON of questions to ask her... Not just about the charity, but about her shows, growing up in a musical family, being a mom, sibling rivalry with Donnie... Tons! We held the interview near the airport because she had a flight to catch to Utah, her home state. Star! Daily camera guy Andy Fiege set up some nice lighting for Marie so that she could look her best. A dude from Marie's camp checked out our set up. We failed. So here's the conversation (paraphrased) "Marie's lighting is all wrong. Marie knows lighting, she was taught by Lucile Ball!" "We can change it, no problem" "Also, Marie has to be taped on the left side -- She likes to show off her mole" (note to reader: i always thought they were called 'beauty marks', whatever) "No problem"
At that point another person came in to inspect our set up.
"Marie's lighting is all wrong... Lower the camera so this harsh light is looking right up her nostrils" "But that'll make her look like she's telling a horror story!" "Do it!"
Then, Marie came in... She took one look at the lighting and knew it was all screwed up.
"The lighting is all wrong -- Raise that harsh light exactly 6 inches... The last thing I want look like, is a ghost-storyteller!" "But that's what we originally..." "Do what she says!" Said Marie's people cutting off Andy.
I was pretty amazed at how much she knew about lighting. I told everyone about an interview I did with David Copperfield. He's got this ridiculous lighting set up -- David brings a huge metal octagon shaped thingy filled with lights everywhere he goes, and it HAS to be directed on his face. It makes him look like a ghost.. Wait a minute, maybe that's what he wants! We all laughed until Marie said "I taught David how to light." She was serious!. I kept quiet! But, I was thinking... What did Lucile actually teach her??!! A part from the lighting set up... We had to wait, probably another 15 minutes for Marie to "re-touch" her make up. Now I don't know much about make up... But I swear Marie had more pencil crayons in every possible colour, that her stash would make my 6 year old nephew jealous! After the lighting and face preparations... We finally started our interview. All I can say is that Marie was generous with her time... We talked about everything I wanted to talk about... The only thing I'm not sure of, is if Marie made her flight!
