Oops! We're Sorry Brit

Blog by Danielle McGimsie, Friday, May 26, 2006

I'm not even going to get into Britney Spears' recent baby blunders.  We've all seen the pictures, we know what happened and we all have varying opinions on what kind of mother Britney is.

But in regards to the latest “almost baby dropping” incident, I have to come to Britney’s defense.  There she was strolling down the street in NYC with Sean Preston in one arm, a glass of what looked like water in the other and about 20 paparazzi literally surrounding her.  She trips, her baby’s head flies back, his hat falls to the ground and every single frame of it is caught on camera.  The next day it makes the FRONT PAGE of the New York Post.

I think we’d all agree that accidentally tripping while carrying your baby does not a bad mother make.  People trip, we’re humans, it happens.  I’m guilty of it at least 3 times a day.  You could ask every single mother on the planet if they’ve ever had a close-call moment with their baby and the unanimous answer would be “yes.”  It’s for that reason, I’m so glad to hear that moms are sticking up for Brit this time.  Recently, the website parenting.com asked readers if they thought the media “had gone too far in their portrayal of Britney Spears as a bad mom.”  Almost 10,000 people answered….75% said yes.

The way I look at it is, at least Britney is taking care of her child herself.  She’s in a position where she could have full time nannies and caregivers to look after her baby boy while she goes gallivanting around town, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.  Whenever you see Brit these days, she’s got her little guy in toe.  It’s obvious she really wants to be with him all the time and I do think she’s trying to be the best mom she can be.  Yes she’s made mistakes, but I think it’s time we give her a break, don’t you?
