Borat

The phenomenon that is "Borat" is taking over the media world by storm!
Sasha Baron Cohen, a.k.a. "Ali G", "Bruno" and "Borat" is all over the net, TV and now in theatres near you.
His fictional character of Borat Sagdiyev from Kazakhstan, has got movie critics raving and comics swooning with jealousy
The faux documentary is called "Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan" and it opens today in limited release. Why limited when everyone's talking about it??
Well here's a quick little background --
When Sasha Baron Cohen filmed his first film based on his character "Ali G", it went straight to DVD in North America.
Fox Studios took a chance with Sasha's next character "Borat".
They did release it theatres, but it didn't test too well, plus the studio was scared that Borat was being overhyped.
Remember "Snakes on a Plane"? There was so much buzz, but it failed to deliver!
Unfortunately for Fox, Borat received RAVE reviews from critics.
Personally, I think its one of the most original comedies out there. Its hilarious! And now Sasha is riding the fame wave!
Universal studios just outbid other studios and gave Sasha Baron Cohen $42.5 million USD just for writing a film on his next character Bruno. He hasn't even written it yet!
Okay Sasha's making a killing and there's there's finally some good content in theatres! Everyone wins right?
Well, not so much. The people of Kazakhstan are upset that they're getting all this negative press.
Let's face it, if you watch "Borat", you'll quickly notice that he is a misogynist and an anti-Semite (even though Sasha is Jewish)
But instead of taking a hissy fit over the entire situation, there are people in Kazakhstan who are producing a movie that will portray Kazakhstan in a more positive light. Whether people will go see it, is a whole other question! They are, at the very least fighting fire with fire.
I guess the only other bad thing that could potentially happen is that everyone will start quoting lines from the movie and start up their own "Borat" impressions. I've already started working on mine.
Oh gosh, its going to be another "Wazzzz-up!".
God help up us!
