They say all good things must come to an end but I, for one, want to disagree. Why can’t something beautiful and perfect go on forever? If anything worth having and worth enjoying is going to come to the end, does that mean our existence is all just a waste of time? I refuse to accept that. Maybe we don’t get everything we want, and maybe life is far from perfect, but sometimes… the good things get to keep on going just a little big longer.

Over the past year I fell in love all over again with one of the greatest television shows of all time - Sex and the City. Four single girlfriends, boy trouble, and a plethora of empty cosmopolitans.  What more could a boy ask for? When talking to my group of single girlfriends (Andrea - a single mother, Courtney - a hair stylist, and Meghann - a land lord) from Regina, Saskatchewan, we all dream about one day living our cosmopolitan drinking dreams on a little island called Manhattan. There’s just something magical about four best friends having the same misadventures, having the same paranoid thoughts, and the same relationship troubles that normal people throughout this world have. Many people found themselves relating to the characters and situations involved in the show, and I was certainly among them. Unfortunately, it was a sad day when the adventures of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte came to a bittersweet end.

I found myself in tears over the final episode of Sex and the City. Not only was it beautiful to see Carrie reunited with Mr. Big, but it was over. No longer would Samantha have to deal with having sex with strange men, Miranda would never change another diaper, and we would never get to meet Charlotte’s adopted daughter. It’s strangely difficult to watch something as simple as a television series come to an end. You’ve grown with these characters over six seasons, watched them go through everything from relationship troubles to fights among friends. It was interesting to realize that I felt as though I had become a part of the group. The final episode was like graduation day in High School;  you get to say goodbye, but at the same time… you know you may never see each other again. That’s why I was delighted by the news that Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Kim Catrall and Cynthia Nixon have each (allegedly) signed a five million dollar contract to star in Sex and the City: The Movie!

Sex and the City ended its six year run in 2004. Since then the girls have done their best to keep their acting careers alive. However, after much begging from fans, and probably to the delight of those who want to earn some quick cash, the girls have decided to reprise their roles and bring them to the big screen. Apparently, it was Michael Patrick King who helped nudge the girls into doing it. Once Michael (who wrote, directed, and produced many episodes of the TV series) signed on to the movie, the girls couldn’t help but say yes. I don’t blame them for holding out for someone like Michael. If Michael was a part of the magic that made the show huge, why not include him in making the movie even better?

Whatever the reason the movie is getting made, I can’t wait. I’d love to see if Carrie and Big are still together, how Miranda is coping with marriage and motherhood, and most importantly, if Samantha and Smith are still together. Sex and the City spoke to a generation of people, liberating them from the trials and tribulations of poor relationships. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.  Now all I have to do is wait for the first preview! I think I will die…
