Enjoying The View.

Blog by Sean Gehon, Monday, April 30, 2007

As many of you know I’m a fan of The View. What many of you don’t know is that I don’t actually watch The View. I assure you it isn’t for lack of interest, I simply can't skip work to stay home and watch the show. However, with The View enjoying some of the highest ratings in their history, you can’t help but read about the latest drama from the girls with the gift of gab.

It has been nearly one year since Rosie O’Donnell joined Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck as the mediator on ABC’s hit day time talk show The View. When Meredith Vieira left the table to become co-anchor of Today, O’Donnell stepped in to help give the show one of its most talked about seasons to date. Over the past year O’Donnell has sparked controversy during an open feud with bad-haired billionaire Donald Trump and alienated the Chinese community with what was seen as a racist joke. Rosie O’Donnell isn’t the “Queen of Nice” anymore.

Now that The View is down two co-hosts (Star Jones has yet to be replaced) everyone is talking about who Barbara Walters will find to fill the empty seats. Since Rosie’s announcement, many names have been thrown into the ring. Joan Rivers, Kathie Lee Gifford, Whoopi Goldberg and Roseanne Barr have been listed as some of the frontrunners for the job. It's going to be a tough hunt to find someone as outspoken as Rosie.

According to TMZ.com Roseanne Barr is the front runner to replace Rosie in the upcoming season of The View. I can’t deny that I love Roseanne. Roseanne Barr is pretty much a high class version of your stereotypical trailer park woman. It wouldn’t be a stretch for me to imagine her giving birth to Joe Dirt, and for that reason, and so many more, I find her hysterical. Roseanne achieved fame during her hit 90’s sitcom Roseanne and ever since, fans have come to expect her to be outspoken, abrasive, and often controversial.  If they’re looking for someone to cause more controversy than Rosie, Roseanne is a perfect fit.

Perhaps it’s my obsession with loud, mildly obnoxious and sassy women, but I would also love to see Joan Rivers take a seat next to the ladies. Joan Rivers is crazy, and for that reason alone I love her. If you’ve ever seen Joan do an interview, you know exactly what I’m talking about.  Joan’s abrasive nature and plastic surgery addictions have kept her an entertaining topic in tinsel town. Joan has been in the entertainment business for years. A veteran interviewer and on-air personality, Joan would be a perfect fit to add some extra spice to The View.

Of the ladies listed, I can’t help but be disappointed by the addition of Kathie Lee Gifford to the list. Kathie Lee is best known for her stint as co-host with Regis Philbin on Live With Regis and Kathie Lee. Now, I don’t necessarily have anything against Kathie Lee, but I just find her mildly annoying. As a fan of The View, I enjoying watching the strong personalities clashing, disagreeing, and often getting into confrontations with one another. I couldn’t really see Kathie Lee being able to go toe to toe with the funny Joy Behar or the often emotional Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Kathie has always seemed like a pushover, the peace maker - not really someone as strong and out their as the rest of the gang.

Honestly, the only person I would love to see taking over for Rosie, or replacing Star Jones, is Sean Gehon. I would be a fantastic co-host on The View and I never get tired of saying it. Maybe this is my chance to send in my resume and demo reel and get myself in there. Sure it’s a long shot, but you’ll never fly unless you’re ready to soar!

Sean ( Email ABC and tell them to hire me! I probably shouldn’t say that on my blog for work…)
