You Drive Me Crazy!

The backlash of the media can mean death to a person’s career. As an industry, they have the power to build you up, and then quickly tear you down. They say you’re in control of your own destiny, but in the eyes of the world, we’ll let you know where your dream starts, and when we’re going to end it. In the case of many celebrities, we love you for your music, your movies, and the entertainment you provide, but it’s your personal life we choose to ridicule you for.

Once upon a time a little girl named Britney Spears exploded onto the pop music scene with her debut album …Baby One More Time. Following the successful debut, Britney went on to have four consecutive number one albums, a slew of top ten hits, and even made out with Madonna on live TV. The award winning pop star couldn’t be stopped. Britney’s high profile life style came to a crashing halt the day she fell in love with back up dancer / bum Kevin Federline. Ever since Britney’s train wreck marriage began, the falling star has been the subject of intense media scrutiny.

She’s shaved her head, forgotten her panties, and checked herself into rehab three times, only Britney Spears could turn a divorce into the biggest media scandal since Monica Lewinsky discovered a certain stain on her dress. We’ve given Britney a hard time over the past year, but was it well deserved? Of course it was well deserved. Britney Spears can’t go anywhere lately without causing a stir of paparazzi and scandal around her. Have we forgotten so quickly what it is Britney is actually famous for? Maybe we have, but Britney is doing her best to keep her musical come back at the forefront of our minds.

Last night Britney Spears kicked her come back into high gear performing a twenty minute concert at the House of Blues in San Diego, California. The falling pop star sang, and by sang I mean lip-synced, some of her hits including Toxic, …Baby One More Time, and Do Somethin’. Fans paid upwards of three hundred dollars to watch the starlet dance around in a jeweled bra and white mini skirt for just a few moments before saying goodbye and disappearing back stage. This was quite possibly the worst comeback concert of all time.

For someone like Britney who wants so desperately to reclaim her former glory, she probably should have chosen a more dramatic come back venue. I almost would have preferred Britney to make her debut appearance at some sort of music video awards show, or announce a huge tour in support of her latest album, but to dance around for twenty minutes, is really a colossal let down. Britney Spears is going to have a tougher climb back to the top than the other guy from Wham! After become the biggest running joke in the tabloids, Britney’s going to have to kick her comeback into over drive.

I would love to see Britney make it back to the top of the charts. Nobody loves a rags to riches story more than people like me! I’ve always been a fan of Britney Spears, and have often found myself trying to be compassionate towards the trouble she’s been having lately. As compassionate as I can be, I’m still fairly critical of Britney, and truly believe that in the best interest of her career, she should put it in the hands of those who know what they’re doing.

Britney’s only chance at a come back, in my opinion is to do it bigger and better. She needs a huge live in concert come back tour. Broadcast it on a huge network, advertise the hell out of it, sing a few songs live… and show us what you’re made of. You’ve made it to the top before with a lot of hard work and determination, it’s time to show us that you really can do it all over again. Stop the partying, stop with the crazy, and get down with your bad self! I can assure you, it won’t be easy, and in the eyes of many it may be impossible… but we’ve all made mistakes, and I believe you can atone for yours!

Sean (I see you looking at me like I’m some kinda freak…)
