For any story to stand out from the pack, it has to be unique. Whether you’re telling the story of Cinderella meeting her prince and being aided by a fairy godmother in order to live happily ever after, or Snow White and her seven dwarves who will stop at nothing to stop the bad witch and bring her a prince, Or even Sleeping Beauty waking from her eternal slumber with the kiss of a handsome prince, your story has to stand out from the rest. Britney Spears’ story has been unfolding before our eyes since her debut on Star Search all those moons ago, and even more recently in the headlines of every tabloid over the past year.
The last time Britney Spears posted a message on her official website it went a little something like this: “Dear Fans, I’m sorry I’m a train wreck, but I’ll put panties on and be a good girl.” The very next night, Britney found herself partying harder than she has ever partied before. Some time yesterday however, Britney, or someone in control of her website and image, posted the following message:
"The reason for this letter is to let everyone know that their prayers have truly helped me. I am so blessed that you care enough about me to be concerned and [I] will continue to live in this brighter state with all of you by my side during this trying time."
We’ve watched Britney spiral further and further out of control, but was rehab enough to push the mother of two back into recovery? Over the past few weeks we’ve seen Britney wearing a variety of bad wigs, mismatched fashions, and performing in what I dubbed the worst comeback tour in history. For someone who is seeing the bright side and making positive changes in her life, Britney hasn’t made some of the greatest decisions if she plans on returning to her former glory.
This message is just an attempt by Britney to prove her sanity. I don’t know any self- respecting woman alive who would walk out of the house looking the way she has lately. Bad wigs aside - she’s growing her hair out so I’ll be sympathetic - the woman couldn’t wear a fashionable matching outfit if her life depended on it. Sure, many of the pictures we’ve seen of Britney show her leaving dance class or heading to the gym, so she doesn’t need to look like perfection, but she is a celebrity. Sometimes I’m sure I’m critical, and I’m sure that Britney is trying her best, but who is leaving this woman in control of her own destiny? Lord knows the last time she did that she had sex with Kevin Federline.
It’s simply just a question of Britney’s sincerity. Does she actually mean that she’s trying, or even that she’s thankful? We’ve seen Britney lie to us before, and I’m sure she would love to return to her former glory, but I don’t really know if we’re going to let her. The media and fans alike have been harsh on Britney. Britney’s number one fan site even shut down after her antics hit an all-time low. I really don’t believe anything Britney says anymore. She’s made her mistakes, and I’d love to forgive her for them, but you can only be sorry so many times before you’re just being selfish.
I choose to reserve complete and total judgment until I hear a new hit from Britney. Sure, I’ve judged her enough as is, but she’s put it all upon herself. If you’re going to be famous, and you’re going to behave like a crazy person, you really shouldn’t be too upset when people start making fun of you for it. Whether or not Britney is getting better, or even cares… I will say one thing about her: At least her wig was on straight in the website photo.
