We're All In This Together.

I sit here finding myself bored with the constant celebrity drivel of Hollywood’s social elite. Not a day goes by where we don’t hear about the latest exploits of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, or Britney Spears. As I sit here pondering the fate of these pop culture drama queens, I’ve come to realize that I couldn’t possibly care any less. There comes a time in every fans life, or in every celebrities life, where enough is enough. You can only take so much of the same stories, the same drama, and the same fights until you decide that you want no part in it. That thought, led to my next thought, if Paris, Lindsay and Britney ceased being famous tomorrow, who should take their place? Sadly, my answer came from the Queen of All Media herself, Perez Hilton.

This morning as I perused the internet, Perez Hilton referred to the cast of Disney’s High School Musical as the stars of tomorrow. As this summer anticipates the return of Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Anne Hudgens and Monique Coleman in High School Musical 2, I began to wonder if in fact Mr. Hilton could be right. With the soundtrack to High School Musical certified four times platinum, two planned sequels including a theatrical version entitled Haunted High School Musical, could we have some of tomorrow’s most talked about celebrities already on the horizon?

Zac Efron stars as heart throb Troy Bolton in Disney’s hit teen musical. After the breakout success of the original High School Musical Efron quickly found himself catapulted into the ever volatile teen hunk category. The young star found his face splashed over every teen magazine’s cover in the country. Quickly going from obscurity Zac Efron land a role in this summer’s much anticipated musical Hairspray. Not only is Hairspray expected to be a smash summer hit, but Efron gets the chance to star alongside Hollywood heavy weights Queen Latifah, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Christopher Walken among others. For a rising star, Mr. Efron may find himself at the beginnings of a promising career, especially if Hairspray turns into a box office success.

Vanessa Anne Hudgens starred opposite Zac Efron as new girl Gabrielle. Following her success on the hit TV musical Vanessa began work on her debut album V. V peaked at number twenty four on the billboard charts and went on to sell over four hundred thousand copies certifying her album as gold. With Vanessa’s main fan base being the younger tween set, perhaps they weren’t willing to accept Vanessa as anything more than her television counterpart Gabrielle. Vanessa may have her share of musical talent, but only time will tell if the young starlet has what it takes to become a lasting force in the music industry.

Ashley Tisdale found fame as the villainous Sharpay in High School Musical. After her success on two Disndey Channel hits (High School Musical and The Suite Life of Zach and Cody) Ashley Tisdale also embarked on a quest for musical fame. Luckily for Ashley her album has tended to fair slightly better than Vanessa Anne Hudgens’ album performed. Ashley’s album debuted at number five on the billboard charts and has gone on to sell over five hundred thousand copies. With Ashley currently holding onto her bubble gum Disney Channel image, she may not be able to achieve the global success of music stars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera who are willing to add their sex appeal to their musical performance.

Monique Coleman may not have had the largest role in High School Musical but as the nerdy Taylor, Monique found herself gliding on the dance floor alongside Mario Lopez, Joey Lawrence, and Jerry Springer on season three of Dancing With the Stars. Monique landed herself in fourth place of the dancing competition. Following her run on the hit ABC show, Monique has found herself back singing and dancing with the rest of the cast on High School Musical 2 but has yet to follow that up with anything major.

As the cast get ready for the big launch of their much anticipated sequel I’m sure many of them are wondering what, if anything is next? If I were a betting man, and I’m not usually, I would find myself believing that Ashley Tisdale and Zac Efron are probably the stand out stars from the hit Disney franchise. The others may be equally as talented but there’s something about the charming good looks of a young Zac Efron and the sassy music made by Ashley Tisdale. Give them a few years to mature and grow, and I’m sure this won’t be the last we’ve heard of any of them.
