Thursday, August 14, 2008Christian Bale is a free man after the assault charges filed by his mother and sister carried insufficient evidence, according to the Associated Press. On July 21 Jenny, 61, and Sharon, 40, accused him of assault at the Dorchester Hotel – where they were staying before the premiere of his film The Dark Knight – and filed a complaint at a London, England police station. The 34-year-old actor turned himself in for questioning and was arrested. Bale's lawyers persistently denied the accusations, while he committed to silence in the matter. "It's a deeply personal matter," he said in July. "I would ask you to respect my privacy in the matter." Controversy or not: The Dark Knight is booming at the box office... No. 1 for the fourth week in a row... Holding third-place biggest film of all time... Fastest to $400 million in North America... Worldwide $715 million... And counting.
