Tuesday, October 28, 2008Jennifer Hudson's missing nephew Julian King was found dead in an SUV on Monday morning - just three days after an unidentified assailant killed the actress's mother Darnell and brother Jason - according to a statement made by Chicago police Supt. Jody Weis. The body of the seven-year-old boy was discovered in the back seat of a White Chevrolet Suburban on Chicago's West Side, according to reports. Police said King suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Hudson, 27, was devastated Friday after hearing the horrible news that her mother and brother were murdered and her sister Julia's son was missing. The Dreamgirls star was offering $100,000 for the safe return of her nephew. She was hopeful police would find him, after issuing a statewide Amber Alert. "She is so distraught she cannot talk," Hudson's assistant Jay told Fox News. So far police have identified William Balfour, Julia Hudson's estranged husband, as a suspect in the case. He was taken into custody Friday after his current girlfriend contradicted his alibi, according to the Associated Press. Chicago Police are optimistic they will find the culprit. "[We've] got two crime scenes. Oftentimes there's lots of evidence left at a crimes scene so I'm very confident that our forensic technicians will go through both areas with a fine-toothed comb, and I suspect there will be some evidence that will link us to the killer," said Police Supt. Weis. Hudson is currently staying with her sister and other family members. She has received an outpour of support from the community and fellow colleagues including American Idol judge Paula Abdul who told TV's Extra "This is a horrific tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to Jennifer and her entire family."
