Thursday, October 30, 2008Another spin-off is in the works for the CW: The new Beverly Hills 90210 is so successful that network executives are pondering a Melrose Place return. The CW and CBS are in talks to develop a remake for the 2009-10 TV season, according to the Associated Press. Although the new zip code drama hasn't attracted waves of viewers, it has gained a female audience aged 18-34 and doubled the network's Tuesday night ratings since last year. But could Melrose Place get the same results? Spokesperson Paul Hewitt said network executives are exploring their options. The original Melrose Place was a spin-off of 90210, starring Heather Locklear, Courtney Thorne-Smith and Marcia Cross. It aired for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999. Initially it was not a successful show, so producer Darren Star added over-the-top controversy to the storylines, ultimately saving it. Discussion continues with the thought of whether some of the original cast members will return... Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth reprised their roles on 90210. Summary by: Jocelyn Nespiak for Star!
