Thursday, October 30, 2008Actress Courteney Cox Arquette is getting back to her small screen roots. The 44-year-old Friends alum snagged the starring role in a new comedy from Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, set to premiere next spring. Cougar Town, the series title, revolves around the life of a 40-something single mom with a teenage son – penned to show the reality of motherhood. "Forty-year-old women on TV are so beautiful and perfect and wrinkle-free. People don't do the reality of it, and there is a real comedy area about a woman who is talking about Botox, about having sex with the lights on and how her body is changing," Lawrence said. The role looks promising for Arquette: Since the Emmy Award-winning series Friends ended in 2004, she has focused on her family, taking small roles in independent films and TV shows. Last year the Alabama-born performer came back with a starring role in Dirt – a show she produced with hubby David Arquette – but it had an unsuccessful run and was cancelled for the 2008-09 TV season. According to IMDb.com, Cougar Town begins production in January. Summary by: Jocelyn Nespiak for Star! News Photograph courtesy Getty Images/Frederick M. Brown |
