Tuesday, December 02, 2008Actor Patrick Swayze isn't losing the battle against cancer, despite recent reports that claim he is. "Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive disease and from the moment I was diagnosed, I knew I was in for the fight of my life," he told WENN. "It's a battle, and so far, I've been winning." At the beginning of 2008 the Dirty Dancing star was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer – one of the deadliest forms of the disease according to oncologychannel.com – and he underwent treatment to fight it. "I'm one of the lucky few that responds well," he said. In May Swayze, 56, announced he would be starring in A&E's FBI drama The Beast. When filming for the new show began in the summer, the energetic actor impressed his costars. "Patrick is an amazing person," his small-screen peer Larry Gilliard Jr. told People.com in July. "He is so positive." Still the National Enquirer is reporting that Swayze is saying his goodbyes. A source told the tabloid: "Patrick recently got word that the cancer had spread to his liver and that is what his doctors said would begin the countdown to the end. Patrick knew it was coming because he was suffering increased weakness." Swayze is hopeful, regardless of the hurtful rumours. "It's upsetting that the shoddy and reckless reporting from these publications cast a negative shadow on the positive and good fight I'm fighting," he said. "That makes me angry when hope is so precious." "As always, I appreciate all the love and support people have sent, and continue to send, my way. I thank you,” he added.
