Tuesday, April 29, 2008It's not an easy job controlling the brand that is Hannah Montana. An embarrassed Miley Cyrus apologized to her G-rated fans and her Disney Channel bosses for what was deemed a racy photo shoot for Vanity Fair magazine. Cyrus posed for famous celebrity photographer Annie Leibowitz for the controversial shoot, in which she is draped in a blanket wrapped around her bare back and chest. Disney has condemned the spread, accusing the magazine of "deliberately manipulate[ing] a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines." Leibowitz has defended her choices, saying they were "misinterpereted", and that both Miley's family and staff were present for the shoot. "Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful." Photograph courtesy Getty Images/Stephen Lovekin |
