Tuesday, May 13, 2008Paul McCartney's "long and winding road" to divorce Heather Mills has finally reached an end. On Monday a London judge granted the couple a decree nisi - the last step to a finalized divorce under British Law - which, if no one objects, makes the split official after six weeks. The former model will wallet a settlement of US$48 million, about $34,000 for each day she and the Beatle star were married. Mills will also retain custody of the couple's 4-year-old daughter, Beatrice. McCartney gets to keep the bulk of his fortune, an estimated US$880 million. The terms of the split were finalized during the famous court hearing in March when Mills dumped a pitcher of water on McCartney's lawyer, Fiona Shackleton. After the outburst Mills explained, "Mrs. Shackleton said something under her breath so I cleansed and baptized her." McCartney, 65, and Mills, 40, were together for four years from 2002 to 2006. He is the last of the Beatles to get divorced. Summary by: Jocelyn Nespiak for Star! News Photograph courtesy Martin Birchall-Pool/Getty Images |
