Tuesday, May 13, 2008Veteran actor Dennis Farina, 64, is behind bars after police found an unregistered .22 calibre semiautomatic gun in his briefcase at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday. Farina was scheduled to catch a United Airlines flight to home in Chicago, but was stopped by airport security. The former police officer and Hollywood star told authorities he forgot he was carrying a firearm. "Farina was very apologetic and cooperative with officers," police said in a statement. Initially Farina's bail was $25,000 on a misdemeanor count for carrying a loaded gun, but when police confirmed the firearm was unregistered, the charge was upgraded to a felony and bail was raised to $35,000. Until 1980 Farina was an officer with the Chicago Police Department. He started his Hollywood career working with director Michael Mann as a police consultant and eventually started acting in various movies such as "Get Shorty" and "The Mod Squad". He recently appeared in "What Happens in Vegas" as Richard Banger – Joy's (Cameron Diaz) boss. Summary by: Jocelyn Nespiak for Star! News Photograph courtesy Valerie Macon/AFP/Getty Images |
