Tuesday, June 24, 2008The news that Amy Winehouse has emphysema, however believable, is untrue, according to a statement made Monday by her U.S.-based rep, Tracey Miller. Last week the troubled singer fainted, which was followed by a five-day hospital stay and extensive testing to identify the cause and any health-related issues. On Sunday the Daily Mail of London published an article detailing the singer's medical reports via a reputable source - Winehouse's father Mitch. He apparently said his daughter had early-stage emphysema caused by smoking crack-cocaine and cigarettes and was suffering from a heart condition. But Miller confirmed to The Associated Press, "She is not diagnosed with full-blown emphysema, but instead has early signs of what could lead to emphysema." Another publicist for the drug-addicted Grammy-winner said Winehouse's father had misspoken "out of his concern for her." Despite her father's exaggerations is an alarming truth... If Amy doesn't kick the bad habits, she'll lose her powerful voice and eventually die. The Rehab singer is scheduled to perform for Nelson Mendela's 90th Birthday celebration in London this Friday... (Hopefully they told her to arrive four hours before she goes on stage). Summary by: Jocelyn Nespiak for Star! News Photograph courtesy Getty Images/Chris Jackson |
